Oakwood School Supports Naguru Remand Home

In December 2010 children from Oakwood School in Chichester, West Sussex chose to support the Naguru Remand Home for their annual Christmas appeal. The students and many of their parents were moved by the story of the children at the remand home and were very generous in their donations. Each child was asked to donate a book or game and other small items to send to the children at the remand home.

Over 260 books, scores of board games, over 1000 pencils and pens, and hundreds of other useful items were received through the appeal. Parents and students from Oakwood School also funded Naguru Remand Home to obtain basic supplies (such as shoes and soap), gardening materials and a change of diet over the holiday period. Arsenal Football Club donated footballs, bags and t-shirts to the cause and all the goods were sent via air freight to Kampala at cost by shipping agent, YTT Logistics.

Ultimately, Sustain for Life is committed to and seeking funding to build and operate a halfway home for children released from Naguru Remand Home in order to provide them with the necessary environment and support to help them become self-sufficient adults, while at the same time continuing to help improve conditions at the Naguru Remand Home itself.
